Supporting Underprivileged Children: The Importance of Education and Daily Care.

be a hero

Early childhood education is widely recognized to have a significant impact on a child’s cognitive and social development. Children who begin school at an early age have a solid foundation for lifelong learning. This foundation includes essential literacy and numeracy abilities, but it also instills a love of learning and curiosity that will serve them well throughout their educational lives.

Recognizing the transforming potential of education, Zara Charity aims to address this issue at its base by offering early childhood education through various preschools.

MAASAI PRE-SCHOOL PROJECT

school project

The Maasai community, a distinguished Nilotic ethnic group, is located in the beautiful regions of northern, central, and southern Kenya, as well as northern Tanzania. They are known for their proximity to the impressive African Great Lakes, game parks, as well as their distinct customs and attire. Despite their rich cultural past, their nomadic lifestyle and unique traditions have historically restricted their educational opportunities.

The scarcity of schools, combined with the significant distances separating these educational institutions, have aggravated this problem. To inspire transformation and kindle the flames of learning in the Maasai community, Zara Tanzania Adventure, a dedicated Zara Charity sponsor, ventured on a revolutionary mission to create preschools. Enduleni and Isirwa, two Maasai pre-school project, are currently shining examples of promise, with 96 eager students enrolled.

While the school strives to deliver high-quality education, the teacher shortage remains a concern, emphasizing the critical need for assistance in ensuring that Maasai children have the opportunity to embrace the gift of knowledge. These preschools bring the objective of eliminating illiteracy and promoting the intellectual growth of the Maasai community one step closer to reality.

Some of the reasons for Establishing the Maasai Pre-School Project include;

  1. Breaking the Cycle of Poverty:

Education has the capacity to help disrupt the cycle of poverty. Zara Charity hopes that by providing Maasai children with access to quality early education, subsequent generations would be able to pursue higher education and greater economic options. In the end this would help the Maasai community’s social and economic growth.

  1. Improved Health and Well-Being:

Education is strongly connected to better health outcomes and overall well-being. Early education could teach Maasai youngsters about basic health habits, hygiene, and disease avoidance. This information may have a positive impact on the community’s health and quality of life.

NGORONGORO MAASAI PRE-SCHOOL SOLAR PROJECT

The Ngorongoro pre-school is sponsored by Zara Charity and accommodates 95 children, all of whom are Maasai nomadic pastoralists, making it the area’s only primary education provider.  Unlike other rural Tanzanian schools, where children attend school with little power, limiting their education, Zara Charity has worked to promote sustainable lighting options for its buildings. However, after an expansion and the need for repair, it requires assistance to achieve some of its lighting targets for the school.

The pre-school solar project will need to use new panels and batteries on the Isirwa campus for the classroom for the purposes of studying and cooking, while new batteries are required on the Endulen boarding campus due to a malfunction with the previous batteries. The charity aims to raise USD 4,000. Thus, working closely and together with donors for charity and raising funds for the lighting solutions will have a significant impact in the education journey supported by Zara Charity.

NGORONGORO MAASAI PRE-SCHOOL WATER PROJECT

Zara Charity has also promoted a healthier lifestyle for children and residents of the village by installing a water supply and giving safe and clean drinking water at Ngorongoro Pre-school. Due to a scarcity of deep wells and tap water in Ngorongoro Pre-school and surrounding villages, residents must travel long distances to find water (which is often heavy to carry a long way) It is tough for them to live their lives since water is scarce and insufficient, and they only have access to it once. Aside from this, kids spend their school years with a scarcity of water for drinking, toilets, and cleaning their hands. Zara Charity is hands on in supporting underprivileged children, through the water project so as that these kids:

  1. Get better environment for studying

Improvements to the water facilities benefit the village’s children and residents substantially. It eliminates infectious diseases caused by contaminated water and water shortages and provides an excellent opportunity for Maasai children to focus on their schoolwork.

  1. Recover lost valuable opportunity for people in the village

The residents of the villages are able to reclaim valuable time for school and occupation by avoiding to travel long distances to collect water.

  1. Strengthen unity between school and community

Sharing safe and clean water with not just children but also residents of the village improve the stability and togetherness of the school and community. Zara Charity has promised to teach the community and show them how to build and maintain the water infrastructure, which would lead to future development in Tanzania.

  • Constant caregiving by lending a helping hand and providing suitable guidance at all levels, but also allowing the children to develop and gain independence of action.
  • Educating, in which a small-scale centre for impoverished children from underserved communities gives education for a more secure future.
  • Empowering young minds via opportunities to study, revitalize, refresh, and grow, allowing them to pursue their ambitions for themselves, their families, and their communities.
